Third Party vs Comprehensive Insurance: What Should You Choose?
Understand the difference between mandatory third-party cover and broader comprehensive protection before renewing your vehicle policy.
Third-party motor insurance mainly protects you against legal liability arising from injury, death or property damage caused to another person. It does not normally pay for damage to your own vehicle.
Comprehensive insurance generally combines third-party liability with own-damage protection for covered events such as accidents, theft, fire and certain natural calamities. Coverage remains subject to deductibles, exclusions and the policy wording.
A newer, financed or frequently used vehicle usually benefits from broader protection. For an older vehicle, the decision should consider its current value, repair cost, usage and your ability to bear an unexpected loss.
Do not compare only the final premium. Check IDV, deductibles, add-ons, claim process, garage network and exclusions before selecting a policy.
Important note
This article provides general information. Final coverage, premium, exclusions and claim decisions depend on the issued policy and insurer terms.
